christian dior fall couture 2010

Now if there is any designer's couture collection I literally can't wait to see each season, it's guna be Dior...every time.
Christian Dior lines have always been a point of inspiration for me when coming up with ideas of my own, as a fashion student with more of a couture/avant garde approach to design, looking at all these amazing garments this label has to show can always bring some sort of starting point I can branch off from.
Of course Dior's collections wouldn't be anywhere as outrageous and outstanding if it wasn't for John Galliano himself, who has been another huge inspiration to me. The attention to detail and the thought into each outfit is fascinating to me, even the ideas for hair, make up and theme. I can only wish I could come up with such a perfect collection that he can.
Anyways onto this fall's couture eye candy...
This time, Galliano found his muse in nature, namely flowers which he would research in detail and focus on not only the beautiful colours but also the actual complexity of a flower. That explains the fine detail and attention on the ruffles and structure of his work. Stick all that with elaborate make up, head pieces made of plastic wrap and we have another show stopping display from Dior.
All in all I am in love (especially with the gowns seen below) and cannot wait for the Spring collection!
Go ahead and feast your eyes...

prince

Been hit with insomnia, it is half 5 in the AM and I'm thinking of how non worthy I would be if this guy even looked at me...

mary katrantzou fall 2010

Today I found a gem of a designer, Mary Katrantzou.
The moment her dresses caught my eye, I thought. Alexander McQueen, in terms of print and in a good way of course, who wouldn't have McQueen as an inspiration?
Using a range of digital prints of lace, medals, sashes and jewels to update the shift dress making her collection quite the kaleidoscopic dream, it kind of makes me think modern royalty with an edge, and has, in my opinion, successfully gone against the idea of minimalism in fashion this season.
And from the looks of her past two collections, Katrantzou seems like she has a lot more to offer for the catwalk and I wouldn't be surprised if she became one of the bigger names in the future.

july playlist

Currently stuck in work, and when the weather is as it is (non stop downpour of rain) there isn't much to do anyway but listen to music and browse about the internet to kill time and avoid what's going on outside.
During my stay in London, I went for a trip to Camden for a day, getting lost in the stalls was a good idea. I found myself stopping at one filled with spirituality and the most beautiful music, I'm glad my friend I was with asked who the artist was because I haven't stopped listening to them since I got back.
It's not the type of music I would normally listen to but when I do I really appreciate it, anyways, the band are called Angel Tears, They're a global fusion music duo that originate from Israel, and have been featured in Sex & The City and The West Wing. If you like listening to new age spiritual stuff mixed with electronica or looking for some music to chill out to, give them a go.

So without furthur ado;
Vision - Angel Tears
Colourful - Skream
Conjuring Rain - Angel Tears
Death To Birth - Pagoda
My Sweet Prince - Placebo
Is This Real - Lisa Hall
Secret - Maroon 5
Numb - Portishead
Hell Is Around The Corner - Tricky
Teardrops - The XX

leather for all purposes

The leather jacket has been a staple for the wardrobe throughout the past few years, but this season, designers have taken it to a whole other level. Celine, her Fall collection showing a hard edge yet adorned with femininity, Altuzarra's dominatrix approach with his skin tight dresses and bodysuits, Balmain's incredible leather trousers and Isabel Marant's take on, naturally, the leather jacket.
But yes, leather will be found in other forms this Fall; shorts, skirts, tops, trousers, dresses blah blah blah...they're in...and I like.
Now, I'm a sucker for a good leather jacket, especially a cropped biker so excuse the majority of images being jackets, I couldn't resist.

love lace

So it's been a little while but I'm back on track and working on up coming blogs...let's get on with it shall we?
Lace lace lace...from romantic to Gothic to somewhat virginal, it's in.
I'm taking inspiration from Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander Wang and Stella McCartney, sexy but stylish and edgy. Here's the part where I say I wish I had the maroon laced top you see below by Wang.
I love the way these designers have teamed up their own distinctive take on lace mixed with either the softer materials or a more tailored approach.
I also have to note the rest of Dolce & Gabbana's collection, the mix of velvet dresses, the lace underwear/outerwear and beeauutifully tailored jackets really caught my eye. The way they created that office wear look, power suit but with muchly added femininity.

the black keys

Finally got to see one of my favourite bands last night in Manchester and as I'm not surprised to say, they did not disappoint.
It's incredible how two people can make such good music, and I have to say I'm even more in love with Dan Auerbach's voice. If you haven't listened to them before and are into bluesy rock, do so and you'll be impressed. There should be more bands out there like these.

Be sure to have a listen to;
I Got Mine
Psychotic Girl
Heavy Soul
Sinister Kid - off the latest album

more fall trends coming up...

outdoorsy outerwear

So, let's talk Autumn/Winter '10.
Things that are sticking out to me are chunky knit, wool, and the cape and to be honest, it's making me think I'm looking forward to that cold weather again.
Burberry, hand me over one of those beeeautiful shearling aviator jackets...please?

more looks I'm liking...

I have to mention I have a slight obsession for shoes as well as clothes, so of course I couldn't help but notice Erdem's high heeled boots which I am in love with, as impractical as it would be I would do anything to have a pair of the printed ones to trudge around in the winter time to brighten up my day.

yehhh...a girl can only dream eh?

home sweet home?

I'm missing London already, living in Camden seems very appealing to me right now.
I said I'd take photos, however I took very little, I apologise but I shall load whatever I see worth putting up.

Saw these guys all down the main street, also asking for photos was so hard! Seemed like a lot of people didn't like their photo being taken...

We had to barter with this one for a picture, 1 cigarette for 1 shot.

This one was nice, we found him in a stall in the market with some really good prints.

Told you I didn't have many...but I will continue to raid people who I personally think has good style/fashion sense.
This is pretty much a filler for what I'm currently working on for my next blog on Fall 2010, using a poor excuse for Photoshop is taking a little longer than expected but it will be up!
